Week 1: June 28th – July 5th

Deepening in Noyes Technique

Rhythm Director: Meg Brooker

This week features traditional Noyes programming in the mornings, and afternoons will focus on technique exploration. We will delve deeply into foundational Noyes Rhythm techniques, taking time for individual instruction and personalized practice, along with opportunities for written reflection. Participants will deepen their confidence in technique practice and will develop a plan for continuing technique exploration throughout the year.

Florence Noyes said that the purpose of technique is to build strength and coordination. Rich in nature imagery, Noyes techniques follow developmental movement pathways, allowing dancers to release unnecessary tension and discover easeful movement. This week is open to all gender identifications and will be facilitated by certified teacher Meg Brooker.  Exploration of Noyes movement lines may be explored in drawing and color work. Artist Dick Widhu will offer an experience in nature-based multi-media art-making. Eric Anderson will be our pianist for classes and evening dance.

“Young at Heart” Noyes for educators of young children, or anyone young at heart.

Rhythm Director: Patricia Carhart Collins

This week will feature traditional Noyes programming in the mornings, and afternoons will be dedicated to creative Noyes exploration geared toward early childhood educators and the young at heart. Those of us who spend time with children observe that many of them move freely, and move often, and many are kinesthetic learners. Those of us in the role of educators of young children are inspired to apply movement as a learning modality, no matter the subject, even if we are not movers ourselves.

With time to immerse ourselves in nature, and be guided to observe and reflect and embody the rhythms of nature, participants will experience and experiment with the fundamentals of Noyes Rhythm, and be introduced to practical, hands on methods to bring movement into a classroom setting, addressing standards and informing assessments, as well as enhance any time spent with children. All are welcome. Awaken and remember the child within! This week is reserved for women only and will be facilitated by certified Noyes teacher Patricia Carhart CollinsKate Terrell, trained sculptor, painter, illustrator and art instructor, will be present in the schoolhouse to facilitate our ‘overflow’ artistic expression.

Tree Wisdom and Nature Words

Rhythm Director: Emily Arwen Mott

This week will feature traditional Noyes movement programming in the mornings and evenings and special focus on being with trees throughout the day. We owe our lives to forests: our breath, our health, our safety. Noyes Rhythm–through deep physical and spiritual channels–enlivens us to nature. This week we will not only live and dance in our wondrous woods, but also dedicate time to become intimate with one tree or small grove on our land.

We will practice quiet meditation or move with our chosen tree, journal, research tree wisdom of ancient people as well as modern ecologists and really LISTEN to the trees. The forest will become our inspiration for creating in words, song, and art. Martha Mott-Gale, writer of poetry and prose, will guide a process that will help us to write in response to nature. This week is reserved for women and will be facilitated by certified Noyes teacher Emily Mott.
