Noyes teachers group shot

Though I studied dance throughout my life, I’ve never felt it was so easy and so free as with this imagery. I love how participants can join in this dance at many different levels–whatever their ability and energy allows. I’ve forgotten how much I miss movement; it makes me feel joy.

Julia

There was flowing movement, even with my body’s limitations. Thank you for allowing me to find my way into the flow.

Nina

The fire in the class allowed me to feel my deep loss and then moved me beyond it somehow and recognize the new life. It is more than metaphor. It is beyond words. Very powerful.

James

I felt a healing energy in me. When the seeds began to grow I felt something change inside. Something new happened within. I feel very different and something has shifted.

Lili

I feel like Spring is in my body!

When I practice Noyes Rhythm technique it is a gift for my body. My back loosens up, my posture is better and I always feel more alive. Rhythm stretches and strengthens me with imaginative exercises that use nature as a stimulus to move in new and varied ways.

At the Rhythm camp in the summer, the staff encourages you to take on new roles you might never have considered. Perfection is not the staff’s goal, but rather to encourage the students to try new things joyfully. Immersing oneself in nature as you learn Noyes Rhythm helps you concentrate on the techniques and your body. You let the concerns of the outside world go, and allow your body to get what it needs to carry you through your everyday life.

Yesterday I went running and was watching the leaves fall in the woods.  Even with no wind they twirl as they fall weighted in the stem.  I thought about the center in the heart and I was able to move from there.  This morning I’m sitting on my porch drinking coffee, doing yoga and seeing Ursa Major in the sky.  I love the awareness that this dance has added.  Thanks lovely she-bears and huntresses.

Lish

I feel so vibrant and connected to the soil, colors, movement of the wind and trees. I love the awareness that this dance has added.

Noyes dance offers a spacious container that is vast and deep yet gentle, playful and grounding. The few times I have been exposed to Noyes dance offered by [teacher] I have been surprised by how accessible and personal the practice was while simultaneously being incredibly connecting and uplifting. This genre of dance from such a unique line and tended by dedicated tradition carriers provides a rare gift of soul medicine tools for anyone living in the modern world open to slowing down and dropping into the raw bones of being.

Jess

Yes, I”m feeling it too! I feel so vibrant and connected to the soil, colors, movement of the wind and trees.  I love this time of year for the depth and richness, the symbolism and the presence of being with nature in a really intimate way.

Thank you all, too!

Joani

[Teacher] was so gentle, kind and encouraging. She is a fabulous instructor!

The class was more playful and energetic than I expected. I appreciated that there wasn’t any insistence on “neo-classical” motifs or a push to insisting on a particular brand on spirituality. It was, literally, a breath of fresh air. I felt quite invigorated at the end.

Your images helped my body to move totally new ways.

I thought [teacher] was great in all respects. Clarified the background, intention, and overview without being overly wordy; let us discover through the movement itself; and genuinely conveyed the spirit and inspired enthusiasm for the nature images which greatly facilitated my surrender into them without self-consciousness. The choice of the music was spot on.

Knew nothing of Noyes. It was incredibly fun, free and comfortable. A wonderful class. I left feeling surprised by technique, relaxed, happy and grateful for this opportunity to try something new.

A very powerful experience for me, expressive and meaningful.

Incredibly well done and easy as a beginner. I loved your imagery and the fact that there was no right or wrong way with steps to learn. The music and your guidance was just great.

It feels like this integrates so many pieces of what I’m looking for. That last part of the class is where something else took over, I let go of my brain and I was truly free.

It was great to move intentionally into different states, reinterpreting my human state as playful and peaceful.

A space where a bunch of grownups just let loose and acted like children, letting our bodies move freely! Amazing.

Lovely experience, many dimensions.

We are alive in that sylvan astral magical world and this dance shows that, so we can know it more and more truly. [Teacher] is a magician.

The technique helped my injury, the music was sublime, and I felt so much empathy in my soul.

The class definitely met and exceeded my expectations. Emily’s narrative took me to a place where I was able to feel somewhat uninhibited so that I was to “let go”. I slept so well that night.

You had a clear, inviting style of teaching that also accommodated to individual needs.

I love the image from your class of the trees holding all the stored up joy of the seasons sustained me through a difficult winter.

I find the combination of creative expression and technique in the Noyes classes I have taken really unique. I have done a lot of work with conscious dance where the movement is more or less open. And I have done quite a bit of technique-based dance where the movement is quite structured. The way the verbal cues and visualization of a Noyes class circuitously brings me from movement exploration into very specific body patterns is really sweet. I also love the cadence of the class which changes several times during the session. And I love, love, love the floorwork!

I came in feeling claustrophobic, but the imagery and the world that was created completely opened things up and I felt infinite space.

I loved class today I am dealing with a trauma right now and it felt very healing. I was able to connect with some of the visualizations more fully than ever in a way that felt truly like I was embodying, for instance, the lotus flower. Thank you.

I live with lots of pain and the moments when we went out of contraction to expansion helped me not feel the pain.

My mind was caught up in the problems of life. The long relaxing time feeling floating on lilies completely released me from fear.

Each class, I am getting more in touch with ‘the spot’ and finding the connection between a lower center and the upper center. The dropping we did, led by ‘the spot’ really helped me understand how it influences movement.

I’m a student and have greatly enjoyed my time here; the gorgeous scenery and amazing classes have really touched my soul. For anyone who has a love for dane and nature, and doesn’t mind sleeping out doors, I highly recommend this camp. Sarah

Group of women dancing in the pond

I have been here for a week. I have fallen in love with the atmosphere of this camp/foundational style of movement. I enjoy the organic images, core, qualitative response the body takes while engaged in the dance form. It has been dear to my heart to have the opportunity to be here. Thank you. …the strong, earnest women have made it hard to be shy. At first the days felt like years. I believe it is because you are required to slow down, which truly makes time here certainly serene. Slow but luxurious. But now as it is Saturday it seems amazing that it is time to go home and it truly saddens me. I do plan to return soon and I hope the joy this place has now will grow further and I will be overwhelmed when I return. Kadie

Your class left me in a very deep and quiet space; speechless.  It was a master class and worked well on Zoom.  Beginning with a progression for a technique that allows enough time for it to make the pattern in the body/psyche, then followed by a seamless flow from dropping off through release.  Music selections were very in sync with the deeper rhythms of the images and their unfolding. Thank you so much for all of the hard work that goes into keeping camp alive. I do not feel like I was able to properly say goodbye to everyone, which is fitting because I could never truly say goodbye to this place. When I got here I felt like I had a knot where my spot is, especially in the back spot. That dissipated some time this week and I am so thankful to leave here feeling lighter and invigorated. This place has a buzzing feeling to it that i can’t put words to. I will be back next year. Love, Marah
